London Road Bridge – Travel Update

Please be aware that as a precautionary measure to protect London Road Bridge located behind Marks and Spencer on New London Road in Chelmsford, temporary two-way traffic lights have been installed today.

These lights will help manage traffic while we investigate defects identified in the cast iron structure and options for repair.

To reduce congestion, priority will be given to vehicles travelling on New London Road from Parkway towards Bellmead.

The Park and Ride bus stop located on New London Road (fronting Grosvenor House, and opposite Job Centre) will be temporarily suspended.

The use of the water course, and pedestrian access over the structure will remain unaffected.

These measures are necessary to ensure the safe and continued use of the bridge.
